Force 136 was the Far Eastern branch of the Special Operations Executive (SOE), Britain's World War II intelligence and special operations organization. It recruited people from Southeast Asia as well as about 150 Chinese Canadians, who were believed to be able to blend in with local populations and speak local languages. For Chinese Canadian men, service in Force 136 became an opportunity to demonstrate their courage and loyalty to Canada.
