Modern slavery is not defined in international law but is used as an umbrella term for situations of exploitation that a person cannot refuse or leave because of threats, violence, coercion, deception, or an abuse of power. It includes practices such as forced labor, debt bondage, forced marriage, child slavery, domestic servitude, and human trafficking.
