The term “Russkiy Mir,” meaning “Russian world” or “Russian peace,” reflects the search for a new national identity centered on the Russian Orthodox Church and the promotion of Russian culture following the collapse of the Soviet Union. However, after the invasion of Ukraine, it has been criticized as a term that justifies the armed invasion of neighboring countries by attributing ideological meaning to the war and embodies a nationalist ambition to continue extending Russia’s influence.
